Budget Laptop for Photo Editing: What to Consider

Image Quality/Graphics

A large part of being able to create high-quality digital photographs on a laptop computer comes down to how you actually see the photos on the screen. That is why image quality and graphics are a major consideration with any laptop you choose.

The budget options you’ll find here all have excellent graphic processors and superior image quality when compared to other cheap options. You will get accurate and precise images out of any of these choices.

RAM

RAM is another important consideration in regards to photo editing. The more RAM you have at your disposal, the faster you will be able to edit photos.

High amounts of RAM on a computer allow it to complete more demanding tasks because it has more resources at its disposal.

Increased RAM almost always equates to a higher price, so it’s hard to find a budget option with a ton of it. Look for at least 8GB of RAM for photo editing purposes.

Storage Capacity

Photos can take up quite a bit of room on your hard drive. Photo editing software and other tools that allow you to effectively edit images will increase your need for storage.

You can always get external drives to increase your capacity, but it’s good to have a decent amount built into your computer in case you need to edit on the fly. Look for at least 256GB of storage as a starting point.

Battery Life

As with any laptop computer, battery life is a major consideration. It may not be the most important aspect for photo editing, but if you plan on taking your laptop out into the field for a photo shoot, you want to be sure it will stay on.

Running your photo editing program can quickly drain the battery. Look for an option that has a long enough battery life to stay on all day.
